Veteran journalist and Rolling Stone magazine contributor Michael Hastings was killed in a car accident in Los Angeles on June 18, as stated by BuzzFeed editor-in-chief Ben Smith.
Smith said in a statement that Hastings, 33, had been killed in car wreck, but details confirming the death were not yet available. However, an accident report received by police on June 17 reported that a man had been killed in a fiery crash near Hollywood. The man inside the vehicle was burned beyond identification after his car slammed into a tree. Authorities said they will investigate the crash to further identify the crash victim.
Hastings was known for the controversial feature article in Rolling Stone magazine that lead to the resignation of then U.S. commander in chief in Afghanistan, Stanley McChrystal.
