A suspected drunk driver was injured in a Waukesha car
accident Friday morning.
According to officials with the Wisconsin State Patrol, the
accident occurred near Mooreland Road and Interstate 94 west in Waukesha County
shortly after 3:30 a.m. Police say 21 year-old Lucas Loy crashed into a
Department of Transportation truck and then fled the scene. Lanes were shut
down westbound near Mooreland Road. Brookfield police officers caught Loy
driving several miles down the road.
Loy was arrested on charges of driving under the influence.
He was transported by ground ambulance to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa for
treatment. No information on the nature or extent of his injuries was available.
The driver of the DOT truck was not injured in the accident.
Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper Matt Barlar said that even
though this was an isolated incident and the driver is suspected to have been
impaired, the accident is a good reminder to drivers to stay alert when passing
through a construction zone. Barlar reminds drivers that speeding in
construction zones will result in double the fee.
