A judge has issued a stay in a $66 million product liabilitylawsuit filed against Cybex International.
According to a press release, a New York state court hasgranted a Cybex motion for a stay of enforcement of a December 2010 judgmentagainst the company. Cybex called the jury’s $66 million verdict unfair and saidyesterday it will “vigorously pursue all avenues” to reduce the award. Analystssaid the huge award could bankrupt Cybex.
The product liability lawsuit was filed by NatalieBarnhardt, who was working as a physical therapist assistant in Buffalo when a600-pound leg extension machine fell on her in 2004. The machine crushed Barnhardt’svertebra, leaving her a quadriplegic.
