Newborn Endures Permanent Brain Injury Due to Nursing Staff

Posted under Uncategorized

Provena Mercy Medical Center, a hospital located in Aurora, IL, is responsible for the brain injuries a newborn boy sustained after negligent treatment from the labor and delivery staff.

The boy, who was born in the hospital and under the care of an obstetrician and a labor and delivery nurse, suffered a life-threatening reaction to the drug Pitocin.  Pitocin is a synthetic form of oxycotin (which is found naturally in a woman’s body), and is used to either induce or speed up labor.

The newborn apparently suffered a low heart rate and reduced oxygen flow after the Pitocin was administered.  None of the members of the staff acknowledged or did anything to respond to these critical conditions.

As a result, the baby has suffered permanent brain injuries.
