Each day, Ken and Patti Hock sit with their son, Ryan Hock, at the Brain Injury Rehab Center of Milwaukee. Ryan cannot respond to his parents due to the severe brain injury he suffered after being hit head-on by a driver in Waukesha County.
The driver who hit Ryan, Daniel L. Kannegiesser, 36, was later determined to have been drinking and had amphetamines in his bloodstream. Police also found an open container of beer in the driver’s side cup holder, which Kannegiesser failed to inform the authorities.
Earlier that year, Kannegiesser was cited for five traffic violations in two incidents in October and November.
Additionally, three days before hitting Ryan’s car head on, he drove his father’s Ford Econoline van into an embankment on Highway 45 in Wauwatosa.
Kannegiesser served 1 week in jail and then posted a $1000 bond.
