After being inspected by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Walmart has agreed to pay a fine worth $190,000 and to improve the safety conditions of more than 2,800 stores nationwide, a report on August 7 stated.
The settlement was reached between OSHA and Walmart after inspectors discovered safety hazards in a store in Rochester, New York that endangered its workers. OSHA said the hazards in the Walmart included poor training for employees handling hazardous materials, blocked exits, and practicing dangerous trash compactor procedure. OSHA assistant secretary Dr. David Michaels said the settlement will keep Walmart employees safe in their workplace.
Although Walmart was fined for dangers its stores presented to employees, these hazardous conditions could also have endangered unsuspecting customers and visitors to the store.
