Water slide recalled by CPSC after woman’s death

Posted under Waukesha products liability attorneys

The claim that a Banzai inflatable water slide caused the death of a new mother launched an investigation by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) into the safety of that item. The CPSC discovered that there were several hazards associated with the in-ground pool slide.

The woman was going headfirst on the slide into a pool. Halfway through the ride, the slide deflated without warning, and the woman crashed into the edge of the pool. She was instantly paralyzed when her neck was broken, and she later passed away in a nearby hospital.

The family of the deceased woman sued Toys R Us, Inc., one of the two distributors of the water toy, and received a $20.6 million verdict. Toys R Us, Inc., along with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., will be offering full refunds for all individuals who purchased this hazardous product.
