Italian crew member injured aboard the Costa Concordia

Posted on Monday, January 16th, 2012 at 10:31 pm

Near the coast of Giglio, Italy is where the Costa Concordia is currently stationed, sideways. The cruise liner was grounded there on Friday, January 13, 2011 after it crashed into large, protruding rocks.

The captain of the ship acted negligently and was deemed responsible for the accident and was arrested. There were 4,200 people on board the Costa Concordia, including passengers and crew members. The accident caused mayhem on the boat and as of now, six people have lost their lives. Rescue divers are still searching for survivors because there are still 16 people unaccounted for that reported to be on the boat.

One Italian crew member was stranded on the boat after it crashed due to suffering from a broken leg. Rescue workers were able to retrieve him from the ship and bring him to safety.

We are hopeful that all of the people missing will be found safely and our thoughts go out to the victims’ families during this tragic time.
