Dental malpractice lawsuit filed in Maryland

Posted on Monday, December 19th, 2011 at 4:15 pm

A dental malpractice lawsuit has been filed against an oral surgeon in Maryland after a 17-year-old girl passed away during a routine wisdom tooth surgery.

In late March, a 17-year-old girl underwent surgery to remove her wisdom teeth and ended up suffering from hypoxia and passing away. Hypoxia occurs when not enough oxygen is received during the time the patient is under anesthesia.

The lawsuit is claiming that the oral surgeon as well as the anesthesiologist failed to notice emergency signs during the surgery that could have saved the  young girl’s life, including a decreased heart rate.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.

Police across the state of Wisconsin are focusing their efforts on the prevention of drunken driving in the month of December.

According to the Department of Transportation, last December in Wisconsin there were 13,000 car accidents that resulted in 3,800 injuries with 37 of those being fatalities. The holiday season accompanied with hazardous driving conditions increases the chances of accidents in Wisconsin.

Wearing a seat belt is a simple, yet critical factor to preventing unnecessary injuries in an accident. Last year in Wisconsin more than 120,000 people were given citations for not wearing a seat belt while traveling in a motor vehicle.
