Three Waukesha-residents and four other people were injuredin an auto accident Friday night.
According to officials with the Freeport Police Department,officers responded to a report of an accident on U.S. 20 near Fairview Roadshortly before 8:00 p.m. Friday. Authorities say 40 year-old Jacqueline M. Hiltwas traveling west on the highway in the eastbound lane and collided head onwith a vehicle driven by 77 year-old Monroe-resident LaVerne J. Schmerse.
Police say Hilt did not realize that the four-lane portionof U.S. 20 had been reduced to a two-lane highway in the area of the crash.
Hilt and his passenger, 34 year-old Lisa M. Szum, were airliftedto OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford for treatment. Two additional occupantsof Hilt’s vehicle were not injured.
Schmerse was transported by ambulance to FHN Memorial Hospitalfor treatment, as were her three passengers; 78 year-old Doris M. Schmerse, 73year-old Charles M. Hughes, and 69 year-old Yvonne L. Hughes, all of Waukesha.
No information on the nature or extent of the victims’injuries was available.
