Police have issued a citation to a Dousman man involved in a Waukesha car accident that killed a cyclist on Highway 18.
According to officials with the Summit Police Department, 20 year-old Samuel Weirick was ticketed for failing to provide a safe passing distance, which carries a fine of $114 and a possible three-point license deduction. Weirick may also face a one-year license suspension because the violation resulted in a death.
Police say Weirick was traveling eastbound on Highway 18 on Father's Day, about a half-mile east of Highway 67 when he struck and killed Brett Netke, a cyclist who was on a training ride.
According to Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel, a review of the accident reports found that criminal charges were not warranted. Schimel recommended the police ticket Weirick.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's friends and family.
