Over Lead Paint, Mattel Settles with Wisconsin, 38 Other States

Posted on Friday, December 26th, 2008 at 2:12 pm

Mattel, Inc., the giant toymaker, reached a voluntary settlement with 39 states over a 2007 toy recall involving lead paint.  Mattel has agreed to pay a total of $12 million to all of the states combined.  Additionally Mattel must apply more stringent standards to deal with lead and must inform the appropriate U.S. governmental agency should Matter discover any of its toys containing excessive lead.

From August 2007 to October 2007, the U.S. Consumer Produce Safety Commission recalled about 2 million Mattel toys because of high lead concentrations in the paint on Mattel toys.  The legal limit is 600 parts per million; some toys were found to have up 50,000 parts per million.

Lead is a dangerous chemical.  It can lead to serious health problems and can lead to abnormalities and birth defects among unborn children.  If you or someone you love has been exposed to excessive amounts of lead, contact the Waukesha personal injury attorneys.  Call us at 1-800-559-5599 or visit our website.

Air Wisconsin Airlines Corp. Personnel’s Cover Up Leads to Depressurisation

Posted on Thursday, December 18th, 2008 at 5:12 am

A recent Northwest Airlines flight had to make an emergency diversion from its original flight route after ascending 20,000 feet because of cabin depressurisation.  The day before takeoff, the aircraft had passed its inspection.  Upon the flight’s emergency landing, however, inspectors found in the right side of the fuselage a tear that was 5 inches by 12 inches.

The inspectors concluded that the tear was caused by a luggage tug.  Upon testimony from Air Wisonsin Airlines Corporation personnel, who had been attending the flight before its takeoff, it became determiend that one of the workers had caused the tear while using a lugguage tug to move a luggage belt-loader away from the aircraft.  The employee who had caused the damage then told a colleague nearby not to tell anybody about the damage.

Such negligence and the resulting aviation damage was very dangerous.  If you been a victim of aviation negligence, call the Waukesha personal injury lawyers at 262-523-4700 or send us a message from our website.
