Popular Roller Coaster Causes Back Injuries

Posted on Tuesday, June 24th, 2008 at 9:06 am

Coney Island’s famous Cyclone roller coaster is being held responsible for several serious neck and back injuries last summer. There were seven incidents and thus far two lawsuits have been filed.

Denise Robles charged she was “disabled” after riding the coaster in April. In July, Keith Shirasawa fractured three neck vertebrae. He died during the operation to repair them. Both lawsuits have been settled quietly.

Man Awarded $10 Million For Hospital Mistake

Posted on Friday, June 13th, 2008 at 4:06 am

A man has been awarded $10 million in damages after suffering severe pain following a hospital procedure. Larry Schultz, the injured man and former nuclear pharmacist, was awarded $5 million alone for his pain and suffering during the ordeal. Schultz was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1988 and has been receiving treatments to help him cope with the physical problems associated with the disease. In 2006, he returned to St. Luke’s Medical Center to have a drug injected into his spine in order to relieve spasticity.

Two drugs were injected into his spine, Baclofen and Reno-60. Court documents later revealed that Reno-60 is not meant to be used as an intrathecal injection, meaning it is not meant to be injected into the spine.

This crucial mistake has caused serious injuries for Schultz, leading to severe spasticity, seizures, and neurological damage. Shultz was forced to use a wheelchair after suffering the injury.

Daniel Rottier of Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ® represented Schultz throughout his terrible experience and was able to assist him in receiving the compensation that he deserved for his injuries.

A lawsuit against Alton Square Mall and Kone Elevator has been filed after an escalator caused a man to be seriously injured. Louis Fester, the injured man, claims that while he was riding the escalator up, he fell when it began to stop and start unexpectedly.

Fester claims that Alton Square Mall and Kone Escalator constructed the escalator in a negligent manner, causing it to be unsafe for use. He also claims that they failed to repair and maintain the escalator, allowing it to remain unsafe with a dangerous malfunction.
