Air Force Pilot Sues Boeing

Posted on Thursday, March 27th, 2008 at 9:03 am

An Air Force pilot that was injured when his F-15C broke up over Missouri has filed a lawsuit against Boeing.

The lawsuit claims that Boeing should have known that the plane was liable to break up due to the way it was manufactured. While the plane was not originally produced by Boeing, Boeing purchased McDonnell-Douglas, the company that developed and produced the F-15Cs.

Following the accident, the Air Force grounded its entire fleet of F-15Cs while they were inspected. Cracks similar to the ones found in the broken-up plane were found on some of the rest of the fleet. Planes deemed safe have since been cleared to return to the air.

Meanwhile, the pilot of the original F-15C has been grounded due to injuries to his arm and shoulder. These injuries were caused when he ejected from the plane while it broke up.

Train Hits Truck Stuck on Tracks

Posted on Tuesday, March 11th, 2008 at 2:03 pm

A freight train hit an 18-wheeler transporting cement materials that was stuck on the train tracks. The driver of the truck was not hurt in the accident but there was some damage to the freight train’s engine.

The truck had just backed over the train tracks when the lights went off and the arms came down blocking the truck’s way off the tracks. There was no way the freight train could have stopped in time to avoid hitting the truck.

Upon impact, concrete debris was sent flying. The driver was delivering construction supplies to a near-by construction site at the time. The driver was 72 years old.

Study Warns of Dangerous Chemicals in Baby Products

Posted on Wednesday, March 5th, 2008 at 4:03 am

Baby lotions, powders, and shampoos may expose infants and young children to chemicals that have been linked with possible reproductive problems later in life, a small study suggests.

Phthalates, the chemicals in question, are used to stabilize fragrances and make plastics flexible. They are found in many ordinary products including cosmetics, toys, vinyl flooring, and medical supplies.

In the small study, they were found in the urine of babies who had recently been shamppoed, powdered, or lotioned with baby products. The elevated levels may have a correlation with reproductive problems later in life. They’ve also been linked to cancer.
